Among these East African destinations, Uganda and Rwanda should your first priority for incredible chimpanzee tracking expeditions. While in Rwanda, you can only see chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park or Giswati Wildlife reserve.

Uganda has the highest number of spots for Chimpanzee tracking. These include Kibale Forest National Park (mostly known as the primate hub of Uganda), Budongo Forest Reserve, Kalinzu Wildlife Reserve, Kyambura gorge and the mighty Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Like Gorilla trekking, Chimpanzee tracking also requires a permit. This permit costs $200 per person for those tracking in Kibale and $90 per person for those doing it in Rwanda’s Nyungwe.
