For bird lovers, this four day fantastic birding Safari seems perfect to meet your expectations while in Uganda. You will visit some of Uganda’s major birding hotspots in different parts of the country. For magical sights of different species of birds including the rare shoebill species.
Major striking spots to go include Mabamba swamp, Mabira Forest, Entebbe botanical gardens and Zika Forest.

Day 1: Entebbe – Mabamba Swamp
Early in the morning after breakfast, check out for a breathtaking boat cruise to Mabamba Swamp, an authentic site rated best at offering best sights of different bird species. Being located on the northern shore of Lake Victoria highlights it best as a major reason why it’s only accessed on boat. It’s often advised to go with your packed lunch.
Mabamba is mostly known for the rare shoebill species, but it has a lot of bird species to offer than that from great blue turacos, Pygmy goose, lesser jacana, Papyrus Gonolek, yellow backed weaver, blue headed caucal, Northern brown throated weaver, Swamp flycatcher to African water rails. After this experience return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Entebbe – Mabira Forest
Early in the morning after your breakfast, transfer from Entebbe with our guide to another paradise for bird watching popularly known as Mabira forest recorded with over 300 forest bird species. Its located 59.2km from Kampala city along Kampala – Jinja highway.
Mabira Forest offers well maintained permanently established routes suitable for bird watching. Plenty of birds are here including the great blue turaco, African grey parrot, Nahan’s francolin, African pied hornbill, Forest wood hoopoe, Shining blue kingfishers, yellow throated and speckled tinker birds, blue breasted, yellow spotted and hairy breasted barbets and more to offer.
Other adventurous awe inspiring activities to be part after your bird watching exist like Zip lining. After head to Jinja for Lunch and then you return for more of bird watching in Mabira where you will continue from back to Entebbe for your diner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Botanical Gardens in Entebbe
This is another exciting spot to go for bird watching, this laid out garden defined uniquely by its indigenous forests and horticulture along the shores of Lake Victoria.
These gardens offer a fantastic introduction to some of Uganda’s bird species including great blue turacos, Jackson’s golden backed Gonolek, black cuckoo shrike, red chested Klaus’s, great reed warbler, fain tailed widow bird, woodland and pygmy kingfishers, olive bellied, black necked, grey woodpecker, African thrush and more.
In the afternoon you continue up to Lutembe bay, just located two kilometers off Kampala- Entebbe highway. Lutembe bay features a large collection of migrant bird species totaling to 200 species including water bird species.
Some of the bird species to sight here include Madagascar Squacco heron, yellow throated long claw, African wattled and spur winged lapwing, grey capped, Papyrus Gonolek and more. After return to the hotel for relaxation after long day outing, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Zika Forest – Departure
Early in the morning check out for transfer up to Zika forest, a small forest in the suburbs of Entebbe town. While in the area a narrow metal ladder is rewarded to emerge into open skies for several panoramic views of birds and other primates like Monkeys.
Some of the birds to sight include black and white casqued, African pied and crowned hornbills, little greenbul, purple starling and more. After return to the lodge for lunch, relaxation and later you will check out for your return flight back home. End of Birding Safari in Uganda.
